What was the best hidden secret you stumbled across while travelling?

An underground bar in London, we had been told about these underground bars that were all over the city and we got wind there was one in Oxford Street so we began to investigate. There was a big brown door with a picture of a cocktail hanging over it so we went up to the door and pushed on it, the little flap about eye level swung open and the gentleman inside asked if we had a ticket. We replied with yes and he opened the door we got in an old tube cart which took us to an old underground station. They opened the door and there was a 1960’s cocktail bar in full swing complete with the music, furniture, the staff were in full costume and the menu looked like an old school newspaper it was amazing!

What is the sickest you have been while travelling?

On my very first Contiki tour through Europe, we had a few nights out experiencing the nightlife and I was feeling a bit off. It soon developed into a Monster of a virus I was getting cold sweats, my head felt like it was going to explode, my chest felt like a 90kg person was sitting on it and I was finding it difficult to breathe. I was gasping for air so for the first time in my life, I took myself to the hospital. I waited patiently in the hospital emergency to been seen by a doctor it was finally my turn. The doctor had a look over me sat calmly on his chair folded his arms and said in a sassy tone it’s a “Flu” go home and get rest. I was like I’m dying It must be more, it can’t be just the flu. He looked down at me over his glasses and said it’s a European Flu. I now have a pretty strong immune system thanks to that experience

Australia is quite well known for being at the bottom of the world, unfortunately, we are quite far away from most places. Bali, Fiji, Thailand would be a good start for close low budget destinations from Australia.

What advise would you give to young travellers?

Get out there and travel, I was never a “Book smart” kid but I always had strong common sense. Travelling has taught me so many interesting life stories and skills that you could never learn in a classroom. It shows you what the world is like and opens your eyes to the incredible cultures, history and people who live in it. We are all the same and yet so different. My best travel advice is just to do it, don’t hold back, you can always come back and do Uni, Get a career earn money but you are only young once and you are older you will regret not getting out there to experience the world for yourself.

How do you deal with Jetlag?

If you can book nighttime flights, get on the plane snuggle in and put on a movie, wait to have some dinner, watch another movie and tell yourself it is sleep time. If you can sleep for a good portion of the flight during the night you wake up eat breakfast, watch another movie and you arrive at your destination in the early morning. The trick then is to stay awake for the whole day your body adjusts to the time difference, have an earlyish night and Wake up in the morning ready to go…No Jetlag 😊
