Fairytale towns of Switzerland
Lauterbrunnen Beautiful Houses

Close your eyes and imagine this….. you’re sitting back relaxing on the train winding your way through the rolling mountain passes of the Alps; after that, the valley opens up and you are surrounded; by tall mountain cliffs and are heading towards paradise nestled in the Valley. Lauterbrunnen is described as one of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland; as you are walking into the township of Lauterbrunnen is almost like taking a step back in time; beautiful wooden chalets, little potted colourful flowers perched on the window sills; surrounded by lush green fields; dotted with wildflowers; a beautiful free-flowing waterfall thunders over the side of the mountainside creating the beauty and serenity. The natural beauty is surreal, it is a jaw-dropping view that you dream about. You may even be lucky enough to see the beautiful St Bernard Dogs being taken for a walk along the mainstream.

The Main Street

The main street of Lauterbrunnen

The small village of Lauterbrunnen is made up of one main street on that street you will find; a couple of cafes/ restaurants, a souvenir store, tourist information, some snow equipment stores, and a hotel of two. You can walk the town in about 15 mins trust me it won’t disappoint! Magical Lauterbrunnen is home to 72 waterfalls, kilometres of walking, hiking, and biking trails. Each season provides a different experience in and around the village; in winter the ski trails, ski resorts, and fun parks come to life and winter bunnies embrace the colder months. Come summertime when the snow melts away; the flowers boom bring people for walking, hiking and exploring the mystical mountains. Your main job is to enjoy where you are; take a bit of time to reflect on the beauty of life. Once you have done that, check out a few incredible sites.

Staubbach Falls

Is the beautiful freefalling waterfall you can see anywhere in Lauterbrunnen; it gracefully comes over the side of the cliff face. There is a small hiking path that you can take to get in behind the waterfall. Be sure to wear shoes with good grip; the path can get extremely slippery from the mist of the waterfall. I would also recommend taking a torch or your phone torch if you are going on dark; the tunnel Is pitch black and can be quite spooky.

Trummelbach Falls

This one is an absolutely amazing experience; The Trummelbach Falls are about a 30min leisurely stroll from the center of Lauterbrunnen. Over millions of years, Mother Nature’s has carved channels through the rock to form this incredible marvel; as you get closer you will hear the thundering roar; of over 20,000 litres of water per second racing down the middle of the caves. The falls are nestled in amongst the mountain face and walking paths have been cut into the rock; you are literally inside the mountains right next to the gushing water from the waterfall. It is loud; ear piercingly loud but it brings the mountain and Waterfall to life; proving to your how much force Mother Nature has. Again make sure you wear shoes with good grip and be prepared to get wet!

Outdoor Ropes Park Interlaken

I had never tried a ropes course before therefore I decided to give it a go; it was honestly so much fun there were 9 courses you could choose from ranging in difficulty; included in the courses were swings, zip lines, and obstacles. This is defiantly a fun day out for all ages, strengths, and fitness levels. Don’t worry the staff are amazing, enthusiastic, and are there to help out with whatever you need.

The Outdoor Ropes Park is about 20 mins away from Lauterbrunnen; just jump on the train to Interlaken West station. Walk towards Heimwehfluh you will then need to follow signs to Seilpark.

Take a trip to the Top of Europe

You must take a day trip to the Top of Europe from Lauterbrunnen; it is some of the most spectacular views from the top. The train experience on the way up is amazing in itself; check out more in our post Mighty Mountains Switzerland.
